There is no valid excuse for continuing the breeding of these mixes.
It was an interesting idea at first when guide dog schools in Australia tried to combine certain traits from the Lab with certain traits from the Poodle, hoping to create an even better guide dog than either breed already was. Personally I don't think it was nesseccary, but the parents were completely tested, results of each breeding were carefully followed, the characteristics were recorded - and it was eventually realized that the traits they were hoping to set were not consistent or predictable. The effort was abandoned as a failure, but not before backyard breeders (BYBs) and puppy millers (PMs) realized they could sell these mixes for tons of money as the 'perfect' dog. It wasn't long before they started using other breeds as well...
What I'm still trying to understand is *who* actually buys these mixes? I know it's tons of people, but what do they think they are getting?
If they like Poodles, they know that Poodles are already perfect and adding another breed will 'wreck' the puppy. Likewise, if they like Labs or Goldens, or Dobies, or... they know that their breed is also already perfect and the Poodle will 'wreck' it. Most likely the buyer doesn't really like Poodles or the other breed - so what the heck are they doing getting a mix of *both*!?!
